Ofcom approves Starlink gateways in Harlow and London

UK Satellite Internet · Published · Updated · Event: 20 July 2026

Ofcom has granted Starlink licences for two satellite gateway earth stations, in Harlow, Essex and Mulberry Wharf, London. The decision was published on 20 July 2026 following a consultation that opened in March.

What the approval covers

The gateway sites connect to Starlink’s non-geostationary satellite network. Ofcom says granting the licences should help improve the capacity and resilience of Starlink’s existing UK connectivity services.

Gateway stations are part of the ground infrastructure serving the satellite network. They are separate from the dishes installed at customers’ homes.

What changes for customers?

The licence decision does not say when the sites will begin operating or promise a particular speed improvement at any address. It also does not announce a new Residential plan or require customers to replace their equipment.

For someone ordering now, the available plans and prices remain those shown in Starlink’s address check. The approval is a network development to follow, rather than a dated upgrade customers can book.
