How much does Starlink cost?

Home plans start at £40 a month. The £60 plan raises the download limit, while the £80 Max plan offers the highest Residential priority. Sign up through our referral link and get your second month free on an eligible order.

Starlink home plans

All three Residential plans include unlimited data. The 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps plans are available in selected areas, so the choice at your address may be smaller.

Residential 100 Mbps

£40/ month

Up to 100 Mbps

The lowest advertised home price. Available in selected areas.

£440First 12 months of service
with the eligible referral credit

£480 without the credit

Residential 200 Mbps

£60/ month

Up to 200 Mbps

A higher download cap for another £20 a month. Available in selected areas.

£660First 12 months of service
with the eligible referral credit

£720 without the credit

Residential Max

£80/ month

Maximum available speed

The highest priority among Residential plans. No fixed download speed is promised.

£880First 12 months of service
with the eligible referral credit

£960 without the credit

These totals assume the monthly price stays the same for 12 months. They cover service only: equipment, delivery, mounting and electricity are separate. The download figures are caps, not guaranteed speeds.

Which home plan should you choose?

If you are replacing a slow rural line, start by considering the £40 plan. Paying twice as much for Max will not fix a dish hidden behind trees or poor Wi-Fi in a back bedroom.

The £60 plan raises the download cap from 100 to 200 Mbps. That can shorten large downloads and leaves more capacity when several people are online. Max removes those two caps and has the highest Residential network priority. It still shares capacity with other users, so speed can fall at busy times.

Residential 100 and 200 both have a published expected upload range of 15–35 Mbps. The £20 step buys a higher download limit, not a promise of faster uploads. Our speed guide explains the published ranges and what can affect them.

What will you pay to get started?

Starlink currently advertises no upfront hardware cost in selected areas. It does not give everyone the same equipment offer. Enter your service address on Starlink’s site to see the kit, any delivery charge and the terms attached to that order.

Some hardware offers come with a 12-month service commitment and a fee for early cancellation or certain changes. Check the equipment offer’s conditions, including what happens if you move home. Our guide to setup costs and commitments explains what to look for.

You can set up Starlink yourself. Permanent mounting and a new cable entry need suitable fixings, safe drilling and weatherproofing. Do those parts yourself if you have the skills and safe access, or pay someone to fit them. The broadband service does not require a paid installer.

For a straightforward setup, the kit may be all you need. For a permanent installation, allow for a suitable mount and any extra cable or labour before ordering. Our installation guide explains when DIY makes sense and when to get help.

How does the free month change the price?

You pay for month one. Starlink then applies a service credit to month two. At an unchanged £40 monthly rate, that makes the first year £440 for service instead of £480. The credit does not pay for your dish, fitting or electricity.

The current rules require a new customer to order through the referral link on starlink.com, activate the kit and stay subscribed for at least two months. Existing or returning customers, retail purchases and transferred kits are excluded. Read the referral offer.

There is also the electricity bill

The dish and router use power while switched on. As an example, an 80 W setup running all day uses 1.92 kWh. At an illustrative 25p per kWh, that is 48p a day or £14.40 over 30 days. Your kit and electricity tariff will change the result.

See Starlink’s electricity use for the equipment figures, or use the power-cost calculator with your own tariff.

For travel

Roam plans

Residential is for a fixed service address. Roam is the option to investigate for a campervan, caravan or changing location.

Roam 100GB

£55/ month

100GB of high-speed data, followed by unlimited low-speed data.

Roam Unlimited

£100/ month

Unlimited Roam data. Travel and in-motion restrictions still apply.

Starlink advertises Roam hardware from £179 in selected areas. Pausing with Standby Mode also carries a monthly fee. Check country limits and the rules for use while moving before buying for a trip. Compare Residential and Roam.

Is Starlink cheaper than fibre or 5G?

It can cost more. That is easier to justify if your current connection cannot do the job or the cheaper services cannot reach you. If full fibre or usable 5G is available, compare those before paying for a dish.

Our UK broadband comparison puts current Starlink, BT and Three examples side by side, including the advertised speeds, setup charges and scheduled price rises.
