How fast is Starlink in the UK?

Reviewed · UK Satellite Internet

Starlink’s GB performance table gives expected downloads of 80–100 Mbps for Residential 100 and 80–200 Mbps for Residential 200. Both list expected uploads of 15–35 Mbps. These are expectations, not guaranteed minimums; local demand and the installation can reduce performance.

What about Max?

For Residential Max, Starlink directs you to its map for current expected download and upload speeds in your area. It offers the highest Residential priority and maximum available speeds. Do not take a single fast speed-test screenshot as a promise for your address.

Why the plan name is not a constant speed

The 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps figures are download caps. Starlink says speeds can fall during busy periods and that these tiers are more likely to slow under congestion than Max. Upload and latency are separate measurements; choosing twice the download cap does not mean twice the upload speed.

Measure the service, then the room

Run the Starlink app’s normal Speed Test to measure router to internet, then compare an Advanced device test from the room you use. Repeat during the hours when the problem occurs. If the router is fast but the laptop is slow, investigate Wi-Fi before changing the subscription.

When paying more could help

A higher tier may help a busy household that repeatedly reaches its download cap or is affected by lower network priority. It cannot clear an obstructed dish. Changing the cap alone cannot fix a weak local Wi-Fi link either, so identify which limit you are hitting first.
