Yes. Starlink is designed for self-installation. How much DIY is involved depends on where the dish can go and how its cable reaches indoors. You may need only the supplied kit, or you may want help with a permanent mount and cable entry.

Start with your own sky check
Download the official Starlink app from the App Store for iPhone or Google Play for Android. Before buying, use its installation-location or obstruction check to try possible dish positions. The phone’s camera helps identify trees, buildings and other objects in the view the dish needs.
This is a check you can do yourself. Start with places you can reach safely. A scan from the lawn tells you about that position, not the view from the roof. Our step-by-step app guide explains what to select, how to scan and what the result can tell you.
Then look at the whole cable route to the router and power supply. Check the length and where it enters the house. A position with a good view still needs a practical way to connect it.
Which parts are you comfortable doing?
You do not need specialist satellite knowledge to follow the setup instructions. Permanent fitting can involve ordinary DIY skills, but the work varies considerably between homes.
Setting up the kit
Follow the model’s instructions, connect the supplied cables and power, then use the app for alignment and Wi-Fi setup. An accessible position with a clear sky view may let you do this without ladders or building work.
Fixing a permanent mount
You need to recognise what you are fixing into, choose suitable fixings and fit the mount securely. Being comfortable with a drill helps, but the wall or roof material and the mount’s instructions determine the job.
Getting the cable indoors
A new cable entry can mean drilling an outside wall, checking for hidden pipes and wiring, protecting the cable and sealing the opening against weather. If this is outside your experience, ask someone to do that part.
Reaching the position
A low, accessible mount is a different job from a roof or high wall. Owning a ladder does not make every position safe to work at. Consider the equipment, ground, reach and time needed; leave roof work or awkward access to someone equipped for it.
You can split the job. For example, ask an installer to secure the mount and bring the cable indoors, then set up Wi-Fi yourself. If the required work feels beyond your skills or comfort level, paying for that part is a reasonable choice.
Choose the position before buying a mount. These are common home arrangements. Standard, Mini and older kits have different accessories, so check compatibility with your exact model.
Included stand or kickstand
An accessible surface with a clear sky view. Useful for trying the kit before deciding on permanent fixings.
Keep the dish stable and the cable protected. A loose dish and a cable across a path are not a finished installation.
Wall or eaves mount
A suitable part of the building where the dish can project beyond an obstructing roof edge.
Check the fixing surface and roof overhang, then confirm the dish has room to align and a clear view.
Roof mount
A roof position when lower locations cannot see enough sky.
Starlink’s Standard pivot guide covers shingled roofs. A tiled or slate roof needs an appropriate mounting method. Access, fixings and weatherproofing are often jobs for an installer.
Pole with a compatible adapter
A separate pole position or an existing suitable support.
Check the pole’s condition, stability and compatibility with the adapter. Include the longer cable route back to the house.
Once you have a workable position, cable route and any necessary permissions, you can order directly from Starlink. The subscription and equipment order stay in your name; hiring someone to fit that kit is a separate step.
Place your Starlink order through our referral link. Confirm the eligible second-month-free offer before paying. Keep the order confirmation and exact kit details.
Contact an installer if you need one. Tell them which kit you have ordered, explain the proposed work and ask about price and lead time. Ask for installation of your kit rather than another equipment order.
Confirm the fitting date once the equipment has arrived. Include the mount and any extra cable the job needs. Starlink’s delivery estimate can change, so avoid a fixed appointment that depends on an unconfirmed arrival.
If you cannot establish a usable position or cable route, get advice about that before ordering. An assessment of a difficult property is different from booking the fitting.
Check the billing and return dates in your order. They do not wait for an independent installer’s appointment. If installation is included in your Starlink order, follow the supplied scheduling instructions instead of making a separate paid booking.
An independent installer can handle the mount, cable entry and any agreed home networking. Ask about experience with your kit, insurance, recent comparable work and aftercare. Specify what you need: a working router in the nearest room is different from reliable calls in a garden office.
Starlink’s UK installer listing
Starlink’s current help page lists SAT-Works for the UK. We have not used their service. Check coverage, availability, the complete price and the terms of your booking.
For its installation programme, Starlink describes mounting, a cable run to the nearest home entry point, connection, testing and an app walkthrough. Pole mounts and removal are excluded; specialised routing or travel may cost extra. An independent firm may offer a different scope.
What to tell the installer
Property and access
Postcode, building type, number of storeys and any access restrictions. Include photographs taken from a safe position.
Equipment and mount
The exact kit on your Starlink order, your proposed position and who supplies the mount or extra cable. Say that the job is to fit your own kit.
Cable and rooms
The route into the house, router position and any rooms or outbuildings where you need the connection tested.
Price and aftercare
Total payable, VAT, travel charges, what is included and how additional work is agreed. Ask for workmanship terms and a contact for faults.
Keep control of your Starlink account. If setup needs your account, sign in yourself. Before the fitter leaves, check the work and rooms included in the booking and get their aftercare details. Our installation handover checklist covers the checks to make together.
