Starlink FAQs

Common questions

From choosing a plan to getting the kit set up at home.

Will Starlink work where I live?

Check your address on Starlink’s site, then use the app to scan a possible dish position. Network coverage and an open sky view are separate checks.

Check whether Starlink suits your home
Is fibre or 5G a better choice?

If you can get full fibre, compare it first. A good mobile connection may also cost less and be simpler to set up. Starlink is most useful where those options fall short.

Compare prices and speeds
When do I get the free month?

You pay for month one. Starlink applies a service credit to month two on an eligible new order placed through the referral link. Activate the kit and stay subscribed for at least two months.

Read the offer conditions
Can I install the kit myself?

Yes. At an accessible position, setup may be just connecting the kit and following the app. A permanent mount or new cable entry can involve drilling, suitable fixings and weatherproofing. Choose the parts you have the skills and confidence to do, and get help with difficult access or building work.

DIY skills, mounts and when to get help
How do I check the sky before ordering?

Download the official Starlink app for iPhone or Android. Use its installation-location or obstruction check, select the kit and follow the phone-camera scan at a possible dish position. Start somewhere you can reach safely; a ground-level scan cannot confirm the view from a roof.

Get the app and follow the sky-check steps
How much does Starlink cost in the UK?

Advertised home plans start at £40 a month in selected areas. Your address determines which plans and equipment offers are available. Include delivery, any extra mount and electricity when comparing the total cost.

See UK plans and setup costs
What speed will I actually get?

The plan’s download cap is not a guaranteed speed. Performance depends on local demand and the dish’s view of the sky. Upload speed matters for sending files and video calls too. Slow Wi-Fi in one room can be a separate problem from the satellite connection.

Read the UK speed figures and what affects them
How soon can I get connected?

Starlink shows an estimated delivery date in your account after ordering and provides tracking when the kit ships. Once it arrives, you still need to set up the dish and router. If you need an installer or permission for a mount, arrange those separately; a delivery date does not include that work.

Check Starlink’s delivery guidance
Can I take Starlink when I move house?

If you own the kit, you can request a new Residential service address, subject to availability and the conditions of your plan. Changing it stops service at the old address. Rented equipment has additional restrictions, so check your subscription before planning the move.
