Can you pause Starlink in the UK?

Reviewed · UK Satellite Internet

Eligible UK plans can use paid Standby mode, keeping a very low-speed connection instead of normal service. Some promotional offers, selected rentals and V5 hardware are excluded. Check the option and fee in your account before relying on it for a seasonal home or winter storage.

What Standby can do

Starlink describes speeds of up to 500 Kbps for basic messages, account access and reactivation. It is not intended for normal streaming, video calls or in-motion use. You need an active plan again for those tasks.

When charges change

Standby starts at the end of the current billing period. Starlink says to make the change before 00:00 UTC on the billing day; that is 1 am during British Summer Time. Resume service when needed and the charge for the remainder of that period is taken immediately. Check the amount shown before confirming.

Residential capacity is not held for you

Starlink warns that Standby does not reserve a Residential place. If the area is full when you return, your previous plan may be unavailable. For a seasonal home, that risk matters alongside the saving from pausing.

Leaving it paused for a year

Starlink says that after more than twelve consecutive months in Standby it may require a fee or plan change, or restrict the connection to account access. Keep the account email current and check the terms before treating Standby as indefinite cheap storage.
