Starlink Residential vs Roam: which plan fits?

Reviewed · UK Satellite Internet

Choose Residential for broadband at a fixed home address. Choose Roam if you need to use Starlink while travelling. Roam has different data allowances and location rules, so it is not simply a portable version of the cheapest home plan.

One home address

Residential is for personal and household use at a fixed land location. It is the starting point for broadband at home, including ordinary home working. Moving the service address depends on availability and may change the plan offered. Do not buy Residential expecting to take it between campsites.

UK trips and travel abroad

Roam is the travel option. For trips abroad, check the destinations and any registration step shown for your subscription before departure. Starlink’s UK help currently limits Roam Unlimited to 30 days abroad at a time. The location rules for Roam 100GB differ across Starlink’s published pages, so confirm the planned country with Starlink rather than assuming the dish will work there.

Streaming, updates and winter storage

The UK 100GB plan provides 100GB of high-speed data each billing period, then reduced speeds. Unlimited avoids that allowance. For seasonal travel, include the paid Standby months in your comparison and confirm that your kit and offer qualify. A year of ownership need not mean twelve months at the active plan price, but pausing is not free.
