What happens when Starlink Roam 100GB runs out?

Reviewed · UK Satellite Internet

After 100GB of high-speed data in a billing period, Starlink Roam 100GB continues at a reduced speed. The connection is not cut off, but video calls, streaming and large downloads may become impractical.

How quickly could you use 100GB?

A large game download or several days of high-quality video can use a substantial share of the allowance. Check previous mobile or home data usage if you have it. Software updates and cloud backups count too, even when you are not actively using the device.

At the limit

Starlink sends usage notifications at 80% and 100%. Once the allowance is used, low-speed service continues until the billing period resets. The GB performance document describes about 500 Kbps, enough for basic messages but a poor basis for a day of video calls. Unused high-speed data does not roll into the next billing period.

Can you buy a small top-up?

Starlink no longer offers the old per-GB top-up for ordinary Roam land use. Its advice is to upgrade to Unlimited if you need more high-speed data. That restores high-speed service and stays in place for later billing cycles until you change it again. Check the charge before confirming; it is not a one-off purchase of a few extra gigabytes.
