Equipment and getting it installed
Read the equipment line in your order: no upfront charge, a purchase and a rental are different arrangements. A simple self-install may need no paid labour. Allow for a compatible mount, any longer approved cable and help with roof access or a sealed cable entry if the property needs them. Extra Wi-Fi equipment is only useful if the supplied router cannot cover the rooms you use.
The commitment behind a hardware offer
If you select a service commitment, the published GB terms require twelve months of continuous service. Changing plan or address, cancelling or transferring during that period can trigger a £299 change fee, reduced each month in proportion to the time remaining. This is conditional on the order you accept; it does not mean every Starlink plan has the same minimum term. A qualifying return during the initial trial avoids that change fee.
Electricity over the year
Standard 4 and 4 X average 75–100 W, including the supplied router. At a worked-example rate of 25p per kWh, continuous use costs about £164–£219 over 365 days. Use the electricity rate on your bill and the specification for your kit; heating, weather and usage can change actual consumption. Mini and older kits have different requirements.
If you expect to change anything
A house move, summer-only use or a switch to another plan can change the cost. Check commitment and Standby eligibility before choosing the equipment offer. When comparing another broadband provider, include scheduled price rises and the full contract length as well as the first twelve months.
