Equipment and installation
Starlink shows the equipment arrangement after you enter an address. Check whether the kit is sold, rented or included under an offer. A simple DIY setup may need no paid labour, while a roof mount or difficult cable route adds work.
An indoor networking problem can add cost with any provider. If you need coverage in a garden office, include the building-to-building connection in your budget. Changing the broadband supply does not make that part disappear.
Power and overlapping bills
Starlink lists average power use of 75–100 W for Standard 4 and 4X, including the supplied router and power supply. At an example 25p per kWh, that is roughly £13.50–£18 for 30 days of continuous use. Older Standard Actuated kits and Mini use less. Your model and electricity tariff change the amount.
You may also pay for two services briefly while testing Starlink and arranging the old connection’s cancellation. Check the existing contract for notice and early-exit charges before deciding on a start date.
A first-year saving is only part of a contract
If a competing provider offers an introductory discount, check what follows it. An 18- or 24-month commitment lasts beyond a first-year comparison. Some Starlink hardware offers also carry a service commitment, with a fee for leaving early or making certain changes. Read the equipment offer alongside the monthly price.
For eligible Starlink referral orders, the free month is a service credit against month two. It does not pay for a mount, delivery or a fitter. Our cost table shows the service totals and setup costs separately so those differences remain visible.
